Shaun has extensive experience as a solicitor acting for clients in contentious and non-contentious commercial, construction, engineering, energy and projects matters, having qualified in January 1999.
He has set up construction law units at a number of leading law firms in the United Kingdom, acting for various high street banks in relation to development finance and also local authorities, commercial and residential developers, contractors, sub-contractors and leading commercial organisations, including household name high street retailers and a top four supermarket plc with regard to their stores nationwide. Shaun has also advised in relation to leading edge renewable energy.
Gaining membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 2002 and accreditation as a mediator with the ADR Group in 2009, Shaun in addition to advising on and drafting contractual structures, is also an experienced commercial and contracts litigator, across a wide range of disputes, including professional negligence.
Shaun has led and delivered construction law and other seminars worldwide, including in Hong Kong, Paris and various locations within the United Kingdom.
Academic positions have included acting as external examiner at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, with regard to their LLM/MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration and also membership of the Panel of Examiners at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Shaun is an expert reviewer of publications for Oxford University Press, Taylor & Francis, Routledge and Wiley-Blackwell. He has also reviewed papers for publication on behalf of the International Journal of Law in the Built Environment, Journal of Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers (Management, Procurement and Law) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIB) World Building Congresses in Brisbane, Australia (May 2013) and Salford, UK (May 2010).
