Kiran Dhaliwal
Consultant Chartered Legal Executive

Kiran is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (FILEX). She has over 20 years of experience in family law.

A specialist family lawyer in children disputes both straightforward and complex cases where there are issues of domestic abuse, substance/alcohol misuse, parental alienation, neglect, sexual abuse. Although Kiran is based in Birmingham, she helps and represents clients nationwide. Due to the nature of remote working Kiran is able to assist client’s from all geographical locations as consultations and hearings are taking place remotely. Even where in-person representation is required at court Kiran is able to organise this through her wide network of professionals.

Kiran chose to work in this area of law as she wanted to help client’s re-build their lives. She says that often clients will see you at the start of their case when they are almost like a broken jigsaw, but with the clear advice and the guidance of their lawyer, they start to slowly put the pieces back together.

She believes that one must only appoint a lawyer with whom they feel comfortable. You must be at ease and be able to ask any question without having hesitation. Going through a relationship breakdown is an awful time. One’s whole world can turn upside down, and it is a heart-breaking process. It can be much harder when there are children involved.

Clients contact Kiran at a difficult point in their life, where they need clear transparent advice from an understanding lawyer. Kiran is committed to making the process as easy as possible for the client, knowing that they are going through a stressful and emotional time.

Kiran can provide a bespoke service that is tailored to a client’s needs and she can work around their other commitments. She offers a very personal legal service and provides flexibility with her appointments, rather than the traditional 9-5 office hours.

Kiran specialises in the following areas:

  • Disputes regarding where a child should live;
  • Disputes regarding what contact children should have with the non-resident parent;
  • Removal of a Child from the Jurisdiction for a holiday;
  • Removal of a Child for Permanent Relocation within the UK or abroad;
  • Applications concerning the change of child’s surname, religion, school, immunisations;
  • Applications to vary  (make a change ) to an existing court order;
  • Applications for Enforcement Proceedings  (where there has been a breach of a court order);
  • Applications for Parental Responsibility
  • Applications for injunctions to seek protection from domestic abuse;
  • Change of Name Deeds

Whether you are the person making the application to Court and are the Applicant or whether you are the Respondent as you are responding to proceedings issued by your former partner, Kiran can assist you.

Over the years, Kiran has had significant involvement with organisations such as Victim Support, Women’s Aid and the local women’s refuges. She was also on the committee for Domestic Violence with Dudley City Council before changing practices.

Kiran has featured on a National Television Programme talking about relationship breakdown, children matters and domestic abuse and the effect of this on a family. She spoke about the civil remedies available and has also featured in a DVD that Victim Support prepared about what resources are available to persons who are at risk of domestic abuse.

Kiran is strongly dedicated to all her client’s and each case is significant to her because she strives to try and achieve the best possible outcome by providing transparent and honest advice while providing clients with compassion.

She is a fluent speaker of Punjabi. She understands Hindi and Urdu, and this puts those clients at ease who want to be able to communicate in their mother tongue language without the need for an interpreter.

Kiran is a Member of Resolution; this is a Family Lawyers Organisation whose Code of Conduct is to deal with family cases in a constructive and non-confrontational way.
