Peter McCullough

Peter McCullough Consultant Litigation Solicitor

Peter qualified as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 1996. He is also admitted as a Solicitor in Northern Ireland, and until recently was a Registered Foreign Lawyer with the Law Society of Hong Kong.

Peter is principally a Dispute Resolution lawyer, focusing on commercial and aviation disputes. He has also worked as an in-house solicitor, giving him a good grasp of how a company operates day-to-day and the need for user-friendly legal advice.

Areas of expertise:

  • Commercial and private disputes
  • Court work, litigation, and arbitration
  • Mediation
  • Insolvency, bankruptcy, and winding-up petitions
  • Aviation matters, including disputes arising from leasing and transaction disputes, aircraft returns, and maintenance disputes.

Peter prides himself on being user-friendly, with the ability to explain and conduct complex legal issues in a straightforward way. He is a fast-moving and tough opponent when a matter permits, and open and conciliatory in all other cases. I every case, he is always looking to secure the best outcome for a client.

Previous firms

Peter has worked in Hong Kong for firms including Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) and US law firm Pillsbury Winthrop. Prior to that, he worked for various insurance practices in Manchester and a specialist aviation law firm, Beaumont and Son.

Notable cases

Peter has worked on some notable cases, including a case brought against a major airline and the UK Government arising out of the detention of an aircraft in Kuwait during the build-up to the first Gulf War. The matter went to the House of Lords and centred on allegations that the aircraft was knowingly flown into a war zone with the consequence that passengers were used as so-called ‘human shields’ by the prevailing Iraqi regime.

During his time in Hong Kong, Peter was responsible for handling a litigated caseload of cargo claims brought against a well-known carrier based in the Asia-Pacific region. He also brought and defended cases involving alleged mismanagement of corporate aircraft acting for high-net-worth individuals and aircraft management companies.

Peter is also happy to turn his attention to routine and day-to-day legal matters, as was the case in his most recent in-house legal role.
