Charlie Hansell Charlie Hansell
Consultant Family Law Solicitor

I am a very well qualified Solicitor who specialises exclusively in Matrimonial and Family law.

I have over 25 years' post-qualification experience.  Both as a Matrimonial and Family Lawyer, which I have specialised in for over 10 years in practice since I qualified in 1994.  I have a BA in Philosophy (1989) and Law (1990/01), and an MA in Philosophy of Mind (1990/92).  Over and above this, I have also been a successful self-employed Managing Director of two companies for 16 years, and so have a wealth of knowledge and experience outside of the law to bring to my practice and my advice.

I specialise in all aspects of private family law, including Divorce and Civil Partnerships. Financial issues arising from this.  Matters relating to children (Child Arrangement Orders and disputes as to what used to be called custody/residence, access/contact, or specific issue/prohibited steps orders).  Separation Agreements.  Cohabitee Agreements.  The avoidance of disputes potentially by doing Pre or Post Nuptial Settlements and Agreements.  Cohabitee disputes and TOLATA (Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996) claims.  Domestic Violence issues.  Change of Name Deeds.

I aim to work with clients to resolve family disputes in a sensitive and family-based way. I am a member of Resolution and I follow the Resolution code of practice.  Therefore, you can be confident that you will receive advice that takes into account the needs of the whole family, in particular the needs of the children. Most of all, I will do everything I can in order to help you reach a fair and workable outcome as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.  I have extensive experience in all aspects of family law and am able to assist you to resolve issues either through the traditional solicitor negotiation route, mediation, arbitration, or through the Courts.

I offer an initial fixed fee appointment at a reduced fee rate.  My usual hourly rate is £200 plus VAT.  For this initial fixed fee appointment, I will only charge £100 plus VAT and allow up to 1 hour.  This provides an opportunity to get to know one another and for me to give you some basic, broad advice, at the outset, identify the issues in your case, and advise of the likely costs involved.  This can be either by telephone or Zoom. Thereafter, my usual hourly rate of £200 plus VAT will apply.  My fees are very competitive, as I am able to work remotely, and so avoid the sort of overheads entailed with a traditional, high street practice. Most High Street Solicitors practices charge anywhere between £210-260.00 per hour plus VAT, and it can be a lot more than this
