Approach
Michael is known for his meticulous preparation and determined approach. He provides clients with clarity and reassurance throughout their claim, identifying and presenting the strengths of his client’s case at an early stage to encourage settlement where possible — but always ready to proceed to trial when it is in his client’s best interests.
Notable Cases
Most recently, Michael successfully represented a client with terminal cancer whose GP failed to make a timely referral. Despite a fierce defence, the claim succeeded at trial, resulting in a substantial award for the client and his family. The client later said:
“Mike was my and my wife’s rock. He guided us through the complications of my case on a regular basis and was always available to provide advice and reassurance. We are in no doubt that our claim was successful largely due to his hard work and dedication, and we will remain forever grateful to him."
Other notable results include:
- £800,000 for a passenger with a serious head injury in a road traffic accident
- £600,000 for a pedestrian injured by a motorcyclist
- A settlement for an American student injured at a private school, covering medical costs in the UK and travel between the UK and USA
- Compensation for a family injured in a sleigh accident in Austria, where one adult sustained catastrophic injuries
Michael has acted in several landmark and high-profile cases, including:
- The fatal Dan-Air plane crash in Tenerife
- The Bradford City stadium fire, representing six victims
- The Piper Alpha oil rig disaster, securing £1 million for a bereaved family
He also represented and secured settlements for 44 claimants (or their families) in the HIV Haemophiliac litigation against the Department of Health.
