Lewis qualified as a solicitor in 1995. He is a Consultant solicitor specialising in Construction Law; both transactional and disputes.

He graduated with a degree in Classics from Cambridge University and then read law at Cambridge for one year to obtain the qualifications required to sit the Law Society Finals exams.

Lewis obtained an MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration from Kings College London in 1998 and wrote a thesis on the enforceability of Adjudicators’ awards. He subsequently obtained a Diploma from the RICS in Adjudication which allows him to practice as an Adjudicator. He has been widely published in the construction law press and lectures regularly on this area of the law.

He trained at a boutique practice Mayfair and has worked in various City of London practices from 2000, having been made a partner in 2004. Most recently he was a partner in a Buckinghamshire-based practice where he was ranked as Top Tier Construction Lawyer in the Thames Valley.

Lewis has a very broad range of experience in the field of Construction & Engineering Law. He trained as a litigator and has undertaken High Court Litigation, Adjudication, Mediation and International Arbitration throughout his career. In addition to advising on all forms of dispute resolution, since 2009 he has advised on contract formation and the preparation of specialist terms and conditions. He is also recognised as a specialist in the field of Construction Insolvency.

Lewis has a diverse client base, including commercial developers, Main Contractors, Specialist Sub-Contractors, Engineers, Interior Designers, Private Clients and Insolvency Practitioners.

Lewis has been recognised for his high calibre work in Construction Law for a number of years and most recently in the 2025 edition of The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom.

Legal 500 2025 Edition stated that “Cohen has a wealth of experience handling both contentious and non-contentious construction matters.”

Chambers & Partners 2025 Edition described him “an acclaimed practitioner with experience assisting developers and contractors. He represents clients in substantial disputes regarding defects, delay and disruption, as well as advising on the drafting and review of contracts”.

Lewis has a no-nonsense pragmatic approach to his work. His first question to each client is “what do you want to achieve from this instruction?” He is regarded as very commercial and has a reputation for resolving disputes at an early stage.
