Elizabeth Stocker
Consultant Family Lawyer

Elizabeth is a highly experienced specialist family lawyer, with a wealth of experience in navigating clients through the financial issues that arise from divorce and separation.  Having spent the majority of her career since qualification in 2009 with a leading Oxfordshire family law firm (ranked Tier 1 by The Legal 500 & Chambers & Partners), she joined Setfords in 2020.

Elizabeth has practical experience in an array of cases, varying in complexity and value including:-

  • Securing financial settlements in and out of Court and through Alternative Dispute Resolution such as Arbitration & Mediation (her negotiation skills are not limited to the Court sphere)
  • Helping unmarried couples resolve their financial matters as well as children matters in a complex legal landscape
  • Pre & Post Nuptial Agreements
  • Civil Partnerships
  • Separation & Divorce
  • Children Arrangements & Parenting Plans

Clients value her patience, empathy, support and for going the extra mile for them.

Case Studies:

  • Out of Court settlement reached in a complex financial case involving assets and pensions (both in the UK & overseas) worth over several million where there were serious issues of non-disclosure by the other party
  • Obtaining a financial Award for her client that exceeded the amount they would have received if the Pre-Nuptial Agreement had been upheld, through the process of Arbitration
  • Reaching agreement for a client through a series of four-way meetings with the other party and their solicitor in a case involving an agricultural business amongst other assets
  • Successful award following a Notice to Show Cause application that the other party should be held to the parties agreement reached earlier in relation to the finances following their divorce
  • Reaching an out of Court settlement prior to a listed Final Hearing in a complex and unusual case where the other party was very difficult in providing their financial disclosure where assets were held in the UK and the US and included historical artefacts.

Elizabeth is committed to encouraging solutions that consider the whole family’s needs, particularly those of the children.  She has also written articles for the press and social media. Elizabeth has built a trusted network of experts in related fields such as counsellors and family therapists and does not hesitate to tap into their knowledge base when required. Elizabeth meets clients remotely, by telephone or in person.
