Nick is a Consultant Employment Solicitor with over 25 years’ experience of providing advice on employment law and practice to businesses, his clients ranging from SMEs to listed PLCs, as well as to individuals.
He takes care of all his clients’ employment law needs, including as examples:

- Redundancy and other types of reorganisations
- Grievance
- Disciplinaries
- Discrimination issues, including harassment
- Equal pay issues
- Flexible working requests
- All types of terminations of employment, such as for misconduct and capability – including sickness, injury and poor performance
- Changing terms and conditions of employment
- Atypical working, such as casual and other “as and when” employees
- Issues surrounding employment status, for example workers and volunteers
- Working Time issues
- TUPE law and procedures
- Trades Union related issues, including claims for Union Recognition
- All other aspects of day-to-day employment law and practice
- Drafting service agreements for senior executives and other contracts of employment
- Providing the entire range of employment policies and procedures, such as disciplinary, grievance, equal opportunities, harassment, anti-bribery, social media, whistleblowing and bullying.
- Drafting and advising on settlement agreements
Nick provides advice and assistance on Employment Tribunals, including preparing and filing ET1s and Particulars of Claim, ET3s and Grounds of Resistance, dealing with Case Management Orders including therefore matters such as disclosure and the preparation of witness evidence, and attending as advocate at Employment Tribunal Hearings.
He is a highly experienced advocate in the Employment Tribunals, not only at Preliminary Hearings but also Final Hearings. He has been representing clients as advocate in the Tribunals since the 1990s on the entire spectrum of employment law disputes, including therefore claims of unfair dismissal, whistleblowing, equal pay and other discrimination claims, as well as disputes involving TUPE and collective rights.
Nick qualified as a solicitor in 1992, initially into the world of corporate mergers and acquisitions and in which he practiced for a number of years. From 1997 he has advised solely on employment law and practice, becoming Head of Employment at Hewitsons Solicitors from 2008 to 2021.
Using his skills and experience gained as a corporate lawyer, he provides support and advice to his corporate colleagues on the employment law aspects of mergers and acquisitions.
Nick also presents seminars and training on areas such as disciplinary and grievance procedures, performance and absence management.
