Neil joined Setfords in June 2012, having trained at Clifford-Turner & Co (now Clifford Chance) in London and then making a move to Birmingham to be made Partner at Pinsent & Co (now Pinsent Masons). During his twenty years at Pinsent & Co in Birmingham, Neil was head of Professional Indemnity, Intellectual Property and Commerical Litigation.
Neil then joined as Group Head of Intellectual Property at DLA (now DLA Piper Carey). After several years Neil set up his own specialist commercial and intellectual property law firm, Maybury & Co which he sold in 2008, and now operates as a consultant in these areas.
Neil has extensive business experience, and is heavily involved with businesses in the West Midlands, having founded Birmingham Business Focus of which he is Chairman, which is regarded as one of the leading business representative organisations in the region. Neil has also been a non-executive director for over 25 years of a number of different companies in the IT, hotel, property development and film industries.
Neil works in Birmingham and the surrounding areas and has a particular interest in the arts. In 2010 he joined the West Midlands Board of Arts Council England, and he is also a patron of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, a patron of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and is chairman of the Birmingham Spitfire Museum. His leisure interests include music, tennis, classic cars, flying, and gardening. Neil has four children, and lives in Shropshire and Birmingham.
