Hannah is a specialist equine lawyer. She combines expertise and experience as a solicitor during her years at leading commercial law firms and latterly as in-house counsel to a FTSE 100 company with a lifetime of passion for horses.

Hannah is trusted by equestrians including owners, riders and agents to advise them, represent them and find solutions to disputes and regulatory problems. She offers an end-to-end solution for her clients and is frequently involved in equine sales, contracts, disagreements and claims, including when things go wrong with other professionals such as farriers and vets. Hannah combines her knowledge of the equine world with commercial legal expertise and tireless hard work to put her clients at an advantage. She is committed to finding solutions to even the trickiest equine legal problems.

Hannah is trusted by the equine press to comment on legal issues and her articles have been published by, amongst others, Horse and Hound and Eventing Life. Hannah often speaks on equine legal topics, and has delivered lectures to preeminent equine establishments, including The National Stud.

Hannah is frequently instructed by clients to draft sale/purchase agreements and loan/lease agreements, to deal with issues surrounding joint ownership, to bring or defend professional negligence claims and to act in court proceedings concerning all manner of equine disputes.

Examples of recent cases conducted by Hannah include:-

Securing substantial damages for the owner of two show horses electrocuted and killed by a bowing electrical cable.

Acting for the owner of a talented show jumper valued at approximately £1 million which suffered career ending injuries following treatment by a farrier. Secured a substantial payment for the horse’s owner.

Acting for the owner of a GB team dressage horse which drowned in a slurry pit whilst having embryos taken at an embryo transfer facility. Secured a substantial payment for the horse’s owner. 

Acting for the purchaser of a valuable broodmare which transpired to have a male karyotype and therefore being genetically male. Secured a substantial payment for the buyer.

Acting for a party to a lease agreement allowing the taking of an embryo from a world class mare, who had been denied that embryo. Secured the party the option of a foal on the ground out of the mare or an embryo for implantation.

Securing the immediate release of a prospective Paris 2024 team horse which had been wrongfully detained by its former rider, on behalf of its owner. 

Securing a substantial out of court payment on behalf of the purchaser of a dressage horse in relation to a radiographic abnormality not detected by a vet conducting a pre purchase examination.
