Balwinder enjoys all aspects of family law work, having worked on both uncontested and contested divorces. She is particularly proud of the work she has done regarding child abduction cases, for example, where she was able to urgently obtain High Court Orders, locate a child from Pakistan, and reunite her with her mother. She is a domestic violence advocate, working to ensure women and their children are safe from violence.

Notable cases and career highlights

• (Re: T (Wardship: Impact of Police Intelligence) [2009] EWHC 2440 (Fam): a judgment delivered by Justice McFarlane that set a precedent in family law and gave guidance on how delays caused by disclosure issues can be avoided in other cases.
• Assisted the senior partner with the civil case against the Metropolitan Police by the parents of Stephen Lawrence, which resulted in the Levenson Report.
• Assisted with the civil case of Dr Joan Francisco, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend.

Balwinder speaks fluent Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu. She is a member of Resolution, a community of family law professionals taking a non-confrontational approach to resolving family matters.

Outside of work, Balwinder enjoys charity work, regularly working with charity Khalsa Aid to help feed the homeless.
