Ash Johnson, who is based in Devon, joined Setfords in 2017, after having previously worked with other law firms in the South West. He specialises in property matters (commercial and residential) and the buying and selling of businesses.
After completing a science degree at Oxford University Ash spent several years as a trainer in both the private and public sectors. In 1997 he re-trained in the law and qualified as a solicitor in 1999.
He deals with the sale and purchase of freehold and leasehold property, grant of leases and sub-leases and a variety of associated commercial property matters. He also deals with agricultural property.
During many years of practice Ash has dealt with many residential property matters including the sale and purchase of new-builds, flats, terraced houses, semi-detached and detached properties. He has also previously acted for a developer with combined residential plot sale values of several millions of pounds.
Ash also deals with the sale and purchase of different types of businesses including bed and breakfast, public houses, general retail, offices, cleaning, on-line retail and restaurant/café/sandwich shops.
Ash moved from Gloucester to Devon in 1998. He now provides a legal service, in Devon, although he is happy to travel the extra mile in order to get a job done. He strives to maintain a high level of customer service and part of that service includes giving clients sufficient information to allow them to make informed choices. He uses the skills that he gained in his previous roles in education, to explain complex legal matters in a manner that is straightforward and understandable.
He is the author of “How to Start a Business – Legal Information for Entrepreneurs”.
In my experience Ash’s work for the company has been excellent. He is very efficient and deals with all matters expeditiously. - T Montier – Director of K.P. Developments Limited
When you acted for us on the sale of the freehold properties that were subject to the respective leases I found your advice to be of an informative and considered nature with the protection of our interests foremost in your mind. Despite what appeared to be a heavy workload you kept us fully informed at all times and I personally found your manner to be relaxed and engaging. - N Stout
We found Ash dedicated and competent, working to a very tight programme and able to master very complicated conditions. - W H Gardiner – Director of Fosseway (Developments) Ltd
I can confirm that Ash Johnson dealt with a purchase of a property for me. He was highly organised, had great communication skills and I was very impressed with the way that he approached work. He was knowledgeable and kept me informed throughout the conveyancing process. I would highly recommend Ash Johnson to deal with conveyancing matters as I am sure he will do a great job. - MB
Ash assisted us in the sale of our commercial property last year and his efforts and advice made the negotiation and sale process run smoothly to a successful conclusion despite some obstructions raised by our potential purchaser’s solicitors. Ash also acted for us very conscientiously and professionally in the subsequent successful purchase of a flat in Twickenham. In our dealings with Ash in both the above transactions we found him to be prompt, courteous and always approachable. - D Booth and A Booth
We purchased guest accommodation and used Ash Johnson for our legal services. We had never bought a business before and therefore must have asked more than the usual amount of questions than a solicitor would expect but Ash managed to help us through the process. This was not a straightforward purchase as there was confusion over boundary lines where land had been bought and sold with neighbours but Ash was tenacious in his quest to understand exactly what was included in the sale – even to walking round the property with us and the sellers. A reasonable fixed fee was agreed at the start of the purchase so we knew exactly what our budget was and we never felt that we were not getting a good service as a result. Buying a property/business is always stressful but a good solicitor can make it less so – we would definitely recommend. - LT and RT
