Throughout 2024, we’ve introduced and expanded a range of programmes, events, and resources to support our employees’ mental, physical, and financial wellbeing. From wellbeing weeks and fitness sessions to expert-led talks and social activities, this page highlights the key initiatives that have helped make Setfords a healthier, happier place to work.
All year round
Bistro
Throughout the year all of our employees have access to our beautiful onsite Bistro where they can enjoy free breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks every day!

The Gym
They also have full access to our state of the art onsite gym and can book in for sessions with our dedicated Personal Trainer.

Yoga
Monthly yoga sessions (sometimes with furry friends!)


Employee Book club
- This monthly gathering is the perfect opportunity for our book lovers to come together and share their latest reads!!

Dog Days
- The positive impact of having dogs in the office is undeniable, which is why we welcome them whenever we can!


Taster days
- We offer taster days year-round, giving employees the opportunity to spend a day in another department and gain insight into their work.
January
- Vegan Day: To celebrate ‘Veganuary’ we provided a vegan feast in our onsite Bistro.


- Launch of our Black Lawyers Matter Mentoring scheme, a groundbreaking initiative supporting aspiring and qualified Black lawyers in their professional journeys. Throughout 2024, Pearl Moses, our Director of Compliance, mentored Nylah, helping her achieve what once felt out of reach: a career opportunity in a sector she never imagined was possible.


February

March
- Launch of Rising stars programme: A programme designed to nurture and develop employee talent, helping them reach their full potential.
- Launch of Management Academy: Through this initiative, we provide our managers with comprehensive training and resources that empowers them to excel in their managerial roles.

- Easter Egg Appeal: We managed to collect over 140 eggs for some of the youngest patients on Royal Surrey Hospitals’ children’s ward, as well as those undergoing cancer treatment through their Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Services.


- International Women’s Day: We celebrated International Women’s Day with a panel featuring remarkable women from our company. They were interviewed with thought-provoking questions, shedding light on their inspiring stories. The day was distinguished by people wearing purple, symbolising justice and dignity. Additionally, we created a wall where individuals wrote down the traits of women who inspire them in their lives.
April
- Bake Sale for London Moonwalk: Some of the Setfords team took on the challenge of the London Moonwalk. To raise money we held a bake sale and managed to raise a whopping £266!


May
Mental Health Awareness Week: Mental Health Awareness Week started on the week commencing the 13th May, the theme of which was ‘Movement’.

- Our personal trainer shared the benefits of daily movement in a talk in the Bistro


- Operation Clean Up: This initiative was developed by our green team committee and we have been running for a few years. Collecting rubbish for the whole week, we managed to collect 28 bags! Holding the clean up during Mental Health Awareness Week was a deliberate choice, and it was fantastic to get out in the fresh air and give back to our community.


- In May, we were awarded double gold accreditation from Investors in People for both People and Wellbeing. Out of more than 50,000 companies assessed by Investors in People worldwide, only 25 hold double gold accreditation, and Setfords is the only law firm among them.

- London Moonwalk: The team walked a whopping 15.1 miles throughout the night, raising money for Walk the Walk, a charity committed to helping those diagnosed with breast cancer through the emotional and physical challenges they may face. They managed to raise an impressive £3587.01.

June
- June was Pride Month, a time to honour the history of the LGBTQ+ rights movement & ongoing fight for equality. To celebrate we had a pride themed bake-sale and managed to raise £85 for Pride In London! Everyone also dressed in their brightest colours!


- We had our summer party in June and spent it in the sun with a delicious bbq!


July/August
- Training sessions on various topics including; Excel, PowerPoint, internal CMS and Teams
- Workshops on Data Protection & SRA ethics run by Pearl Moses, Director and Head of Compliance, and Antony O’loughlin, Director & Head of litigation
- Performance review training for managers
- Named ‘Best Places to Work’ by the Sunday Times

September
- Macmillan Coffee Morning: We were able to raise £273.00 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

- Operation Clean Up again! This time we beate our record again and collected 36 bags of rubbish!


Town Hall
- We held another town hall and captured a great moment with our employee award winners alongside our CEOs.


October
- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we rallied together to support Breast Cancer Now with our annual Bake Sale. We raised an impressive £200.00! We also took part in the ‘Wear it Pink’ day, turning the office into a vibrant sea of pink.


- Our annual Pumpkin Carving Competition was a spooktacular success!

- To mark World Mental Health Day, we hosted a special event in the bistro. The theme was “Mental Health at Work,” and we explored it through a thought-provoking TED Talk and facilitated group discussions led by our Mental Health First Aiders

- To celebrate World Food Day, we embarked on an international snack exchange! From Cornish pasties to Brazilian brigadeiros, there was something for everyone.


- Webinar – Mental Health in the work place
- Webinar – Menopause awareness
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion workshops were run all month. The sessions were not only informative and engaging but also incredibly important for our growth and understanding.
November
- In November our gym-reopened and we held a ‘Wellness Wednesday’: Along with a selection of delicious, nutritious treats—including fresh smoothies, protein-packed bites, and a veggie-filled lunch—our personal trainer, Loukas, led two energising fitness sessions!


- We celebrated International Men’s Day by wearing blue, having an ‘inspiration wall’, and another of our morning wake and shake session!


- Launch of AI and Emerging Tech committee
December
We had plenty of festivities going on at head office, including:

- Christmas Jumper Day




- We also raised money for Prostate Cancer UK by selling these handmade crochet baubles!
