Being attacked or bitten by a dog can be a traumatic experience, even worse if a child is involved. The consequences can leave a victim with permanent physical injuries or long-term psychological damage.
Animal owners have a responsibility to keep their dog under control at all times and ensure it does not cause injury or distress to others. There is strict liability on owners under the Animals Act in the UK.

If possible identify the dog breed, type or description and the identity or address of the owner and notify the police or RSPCA .or local authority if they have an animal welfare officer. Seek medical attention for your injuries and try and identify any witnesses.

What information do I need to pursue a dog bite claim?
Most dogs that are exercised in public must wear an identifying collar or may be micro-chipped. We would with your help need to ascertain:-
- Who does the dog belong to?
- What is the address of the owner?
- Did anyone see the incident happen, if so obtain their details as a witness
- Take photographs of your injury along with any damage to clothing etc.
- Attempt to find out if the owner has details of their household and/or pet insurance or owns their own home.
