Business lawyers at Comet are busy again as the businesses announces that it is close to going into liquidation posing a risk for approximately 6,000 jobs.
OpCapita took on the business last February from Kesa. But issues around profits had been on the cards for some time with the recession taking its toll on the big ticket appliance items which many people put off buying. It will be a sad day should the business go under, having been a presence on the UK high street since 1968 when it opened its first store in Hull.
It is rumoured that the administrators will try to sell Comet as a going concern in order to try to avoid the retailer graveyard that so many other well known brands have been resigned to.
