The east coast of the US is bracing itself for what is rumoured to be the largest storm in living memory. Hurricane Sandy has already killed 60 people across the Caribbean and almost 400,000 people have been evacuated from the low lying coastal areas of New York City, Long Island and parts of New Jersey.  Experts are concerned over the levels of devastation that could occur to residential properties and businesses, bringing back memories of hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The authorities have heeded individuals to take the warnings seriously and to keep track of the storm. It has been suggested that residents stock up on supplies and be prepared for severe power surges that are likely to cause power outages.

The worst of the storm is expected to hit on Monday.
