On Wednesday the Prime Minister said that the government would force energy companies providing services to businesses and individuals, to lower their prices in order to help customers during this tight economic period. However, it appears now that details have yet to be worked out on how this would work.
In April energy supplier agreed to a voluntary scheme where providers would contact customers every year to inform them of the best tariff available to them. But again there is little detail on how this will work, particularly as currently the promise is voluntary and it is unclear how this can become legally binding. The Energy Secretary Ed Davey has confirmed the PM hopes but has not offered any further details. The contents of this article are intended for general information purposes only and shall not be deemed to be, or constitute legal advice.
