Increased monitoring of adult care is required

Anyone involved in advising families about adult and elderly care options, including private client solicitors, is likely to be interested into the review into the recent abuse case at the Winterbourne View care home. The report highlights a number of incidents that took place against patients at the home which were not reported to the NHS or South Gloucestershire Adult Safeguarding, this included assault from a member of staff and the general attitude of the staff. The report has stated that the home had ‘poorly paid and untrained staff’ which has contributed to the neglect, adding that the owners of the home were more interested in the financial awards.

The report went beyond criticising just the care home and stated that the local Avon & Somerset Police should have noticed at issue at Winterbourne given the 29 calls and 9 incidents. Leading to suggests that a more joined up approach needs to be considered. The contents of this article are intended for general information purposes only and shall not be deemed to be, or constitute legal advice.
