Setfords boys grow a tache for cash in aid of charity

Eight Setfords solicitors are among those lending their top lips to the Movember charity cause.

The group, based at our Guildford headquarters, have been cultivating their facial hair to raise over £1,000 in sponsorship for male cancer charities.

Greg Barnbrook, consultant solicitor and Setfords’ Movember team captain, said: I rallied a Movember team to help break taboos surrounding male cancers, get people talking more openly and, of course, raise some money too.

“We’ve gone for a range of styles, with varying degrees of success. ‘The Mexican’ has been the hot favourite, followed closely by ‘The Sergeant Major’, although what some of the guys were aiming for is anyone’ guess.”

Team Setfords’ commitment to the cause has not always been plain sailing, with their hirsute appearance being met with mixed reactions.

Greg explained: “When I meet people I can tell they want to say something about the moustache but refrain out of politeness, thinking it might be some kind of strange life choice.

Our recent meetings have started with us explaining why we look so ridiculous. Most people give us their full support once they understand what it’ about, while some look visibly relieved.

We may have drawn some strange looks over the last month, but that’ fine because every time we have to explain it raises awareness of this excellent cause.”

Movember has become an international phenomenon since its launch in Melbourne, Australia in 2003, with over a million people having raised £106 million for cancer charities, including The Prostate Cancer Charity and The Institute of Cancer Research.

Participants enter November with a clean-shaven face, then nurture their sprouting facial hair and fashion it into fetching styles over the following 30 days.
