Another major milestone for the 2012 Olympics was reached recently, with the completion and handing over of the Olympic Village to the games organisers.
The residential property complex, featuring 2,818 flats for the athletes, was handed over in an official ceremony; marking 6 months until the start of the games. The flats will be fitted out over the next couple of months, to provide athletes and officials with their specific needs.
The Olympic Delivery Authority stated that the overall project included 62 buildings, 3,000 apartments, a polyclinic and a school. They also commented on the legacy of the project saying that: "The idea is to try and ensure that we're combining the requirements of the athletes during the Games with the requirements of the local community in the legacy after the Games."
