Ed Davey Opens UKs Largest Wind Farm

One of the UK’s largest and newest wind farms was backed today by the Energy Secretary, Ed Davey, in a move to promote the governments commitment to renewable power.

Environmental issues have long been a contentious issue for the current conservative government and this move is aimed at silencing critics by highlighting current green energy schemes.

The wind farm, known as the Walney scheme and located in Cumbria, is set to be officially opened by Ed Davey today. The farm cost a total of £1.2bn and, with 100 turbines, is one of the largest such projects in the world

Davey commented on the UK wind power commitment, saying: "Britain has a lot to be proud of in our growing offshore wind sector. Our island's tremendous natural resource, our research base and a proud history of engineering make this the No 1 destination for investment in offshore wind.”
