British Gas Launch Insulation Scheme

British Gas launched a new initiative today, aimed at getting more insulation into the homes of the ‘needy’ to meet government set targets.

The energy giant is offering £50 to anyone who can put them in contact with an elderly relative or family on benefits who are yet to receive free house insulation from the scheme; with the over all aim to outfit 500,000 homes by next year.

The scheme is part of the government’s wider environmental plans, which are looking to cut carbon emissions in the UK by 50% before 2025. The scheme will also make a big impact on heating bills for those involved, with loft insulation saving an average of £175 a year on heating bills and cavity wall insulation £135.

The move by British Gas was welcomed by consumer watchdog’s as is being seen as a step in the right direction.
